ABOUT US

WHO WE ARE

DSC_0276.JPG

St.Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church is a member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). Our congregation is Christian, meaning, we teach that Jesus Christ came as Savior of the whole world, to rescue us from hell, death, and sin. He is God’s free gift to us!

Our congregation is also Confessionally Lutheran, which means we acknowledge that all of the Bible’s words are God’s words, as if he spoke them directly to us. So, Scripture is 100% flawless and without errors.  In this Word, we hear about our internal sinfulness, which separates us from God. At the same time, we hear the good news that Jesus removed that sin to reconcile us with God and give us eternal life.

This good news unites us each week at worship and opens our hearts to receive God’s grace, while joining in joyful praise and thanks to God for what he has done. Join us!

LITTLE LIONS PRESCHOOL

Little Lions Preschool, a ministry of St. Mark, first opened its doors in 2006 to serve families of the congregation and the community with a quality, academic, and Christ-centered preschool education. Our director, teachers, and all the members of St. Mark enthusiastically seek to share Christ, his Word, and our gifts with you, our neighbors, here in Salina. If you’re interested in enrollment or learning more about our preschool, please visit littlelionspreschool.org.

Our Staff

Pastor Jim Winterstein

Pastor Winterstein and his wife Wendy arrived in Salina in 2023 after he served for 24 years in Mesa, Arizona. We are happy to have Pastor here to faithfully preach and teach God’s Word!

Ms. Laurel Coates

Ms. Laurel Coates is our Little Lions Preschool director and teacher. She is a graduate of Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN, with a BS in Elementary Education. She comes to Salina with 20 years of teaching experience and is excited to have this opportunity to share God’s love with the children of Little Lions Preschool.

She says that the words of her confirmation verse have given her assurance throughout her life that God is our strength in all things: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
